Torkuchen
A moment to unwind in the city.
Ripe peaches take centre stage in a parfait layered with cream-filled fruit, peach ice cream and peach jelly. Other options include a pistachio Mont Blanc parfait and a dessert that compares fresh-chocolate truffles made with pistachios from different regions.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Start with the peach on its own, then pair it with the cream inside: that is one way to enjoy Torkuchen’s peach parfait. Some diners have described first tasting the fruit by itself to appreciate its sweetness, then combining it with tea, pistachio or custard cream. In the three-layer version, each peach contains a different cream, so the combinations change as you work your way through the parfait.
The menu’s Fresh Peach Extravaganza Parfait uses 1.5 ripe peaches, layered with fresh peach jelly, chiffon cake, milk ice cream and peach ice cream. For an even more fruit-forward serving, the menu also lists a Premium with 2.5 peaches and a Platinum with 3.5; these are prepared only when specially selected large peaches arrive. Fruit remains the focus, while the ice cream, jelly and cream add different textures and flavours. One diner who ordered the three-layer peach parfait said that moving the peaches to the accompanying plate made it easy to taste the different creams in turn. If you are unsure about the size, it may help to consider whether you want to savour the peaches solo or share them alongside cake.
Pistachio is another option. The Pistachio Mont Blanc Parfait is described as combining custard cream and vanilla ice cream. For a closer look at how the ingredient varies by origin, there is also a parfait featuring a tasting of fresh-chocolate pistachio truffles from the United States, Iran and Sicily. It is an appealing alternative when pistachio, rather than seasonal fruit, is what you have in mind.
The drinks menu includes freshly ground coffee, brewed to order, and caffeine-free rooibos tea. Choose coffee to finish your parfait or tea if you prefer to avoid caffeine. Menus and seasonal items can change, so check whether the peach desserts are available before setting out. Takeaway is also available, offering the option of bringing home a cake instead of having a parfait in the shop.
